What Causes MRSA and How to Prevent Getting MRSA?
Posted by in Disinfectants on July 9, 2011
MRSA is Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It is a bacteria caused by strain of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and resistance to most antibiotics including Methicillin.(Methicillin is an antibiotic that was used to treat infections). MRSA can be found in hospitals, nursing homes, gyms and even locker rooms in schools. Anyone can get MRSA!
MRSA infection looks like a spider bite but this superbug is more than a bite. MRSA is an area on the skin that looks red, swollen and painful. If you are not getting better with antibiotics for skin infections, you probably have MRSA. Consult your doctor for other antibiotics resistant to MRSA. If you have fever, chest pain, difficulty breathing, low blood pressure or rash that spread all over your body these are signs of serious MRSA that has spread beyond your skin into your blood, lungs and other parts of your body. Seek for medical advice as soon as possible.
A person who has MRSA can carry this bacteria for days, weeks and even years. It is highly recommended to use a disinfectant that kills it. Spray it on any surface that could be exposed to uncovered infections and comes in direct contact of people’s bare skin like tables, door knobs and locker rooms in order to avoid spreading MRSA. Not every disinfectant that claims to kill MRSA actually kills it. Find out if there is a scientific proof for any killing claims and how long should you leave the liquid on the surface before wiping it off. Disinfectants effective against Staph are most likely to be effective against MRSA.
Many disinfectants on the market contain toxic chemicals, even the hospital grade ones. Bacteria builds resistance to chemicals therefore those disinfectants are NOT EFFECTIVE! Check the disinfectant label for any hazard warnings. Chemicals do not kill the DNA of the bacteria which allows bacteria to spread. Chemicals have irritating smell, skin irritation and can have bad impact on your overall health. Read the rest of this entry »
Time Saving Kitchen Cleaning Tips
Posted by in Disinfectants on July 9, 2011
The kitchen should be kept clean and organized at all times to eliminate many food related diseases and safety hazards. Keeping the kitchen safe and clean often necessitates a lot of effort in scraping dried food spills, dish washing, disinfecting, removing mess and a lot more. Household chores shouldn’t put a lot of strain on our time and energy. Various cleaning strategies can be applied to maintain proper sanitation in the kitchen without spending too much time in there in cleaning up mess.
Undertaking some measures to prevent the build up of dirt and mess in the first place will definitely spare you from the tedious kitchen cleaning sessions.
1. Removing scorched foods left on pans and other cooking utensils after cooking is easy. You don’t have to spend much time scraping it off by soaking it first in soapy water before washing it or loading in the dishwasher.
2. Never let unwashed dishes and other kitchen utensils gather in the kitchen sink over time. Leaving it unclean for a long time will invite insects and help in the spread of bacteria. As soon as you have finished using the dishes, immediately wash them. For large families, ask each member of the family to wash the plates after use so it doesn’t pile up which makes the dish washing session so tiring.
3. The common problems with sinks are scratches and water marks. Simple advice to prevent scratches on the sink is to put a rubber mat at the bottom when washing sharp objects. Wiping the sink with a soft, clean cloth soaked in vinegar will remove the water marks on the sink and make it sparkling clean. Read the rest of this entry »
