Using Ayurveda To Stay Young
Posted by in Ayurveda on July 18, 2011
The school of medicine known as Ayurveda originated in India thousands of years ago as a system for extending life. It was largely unknown in the West until recently, and is now a very popular self-care system and proven model for health and longevity. The term Ayurveda translates as the “science of longevity,” and it is widely accepted today as an alternative to drugs and some surgeries.
Ayurveda is a holistic science of wellness which creates harmony between 2 fundamental forces in our bodies. They are movement and stability. Movement is observed in the nervous system and stability provides the structure to support movement. The one force that makes it all happen is behind these 2 forces and keeps them in balance. You can do this by fully understanding that aging is as much a mental event as it is a physical one, and allow your body to change.
One system used in Ayurveda for rejuvenation is called Kayakalpa. It is a series of vital breathing practices, dietary guidelines, and daily living recommendations which were developed in India. Therefore it is very beneficial for those seeking to continue improving the quality of their lives as they get older, to learn more about these ancient teachings. There are retreats available throughout the country and many books written about Ayurveda and the practice of Kayakalpa. Read the rest of this entry »
